yamaha 8hk choke and heat?

I finaly got my old yamaha 8a 647 8hk started...but..
i had to take the choke off and putt the throtle to full...
ween i pumped the gas and tokk the choke on the fule started to leak under a small hole were the choke cabel gos in the carb? why??

and how hot shut the water be?
it seemed to be a litle hot just hott enough to tutch!
shud i test the termostat (heat lock) or just remove for safty?

also a litel smoke/steam came out with the water... "a putt putt steam"

any ideas?
