Yamaha 703 control adjustment advice

I just installed in my 33ft sailing catamaran a 2022 Yamaha 25 HT with controls and lift.
I purchased a 703 control and having problems when shifting into FWD. I have no binding, but it takes a while for the FWD control to engage and when it does is quite violent and at high RPM. Once I past that, i can pull back and the rev is smooth. On the reverse side I do not have that issue but it does travel quite a bit.
So I suspect that I need to either adjust he plastic dogs at each end of the line but not sure if to make them shorter or longer. I hope I do not have to adjust the actual 703 control mechanism.

Any thoughts on this?

What is a Yamaha 25 HT model? Something is missing. Is it a T25XXX?

What is lift part about?

When you mention it takes a while for the fwd control to engage are you talking about the motion of the throttle/shift handle?

The shift should only happen at idle RPM. Is the motor idling normally?

Yes the fed control handle travels about 50% before it engages the transmission with a big thud and high rpm, after that i can back it up to a wisper motion no issues - cables are new, engine is new, control is new. I will check if I did the required 11mm gap between the end of the treaded cable and the stop bolt to screw in the ears that are later connected to the shift arm.

The engine idles normally, at low rpm and i dont have the same issue when doing reverse.

The same part number cable is used for the throttle that is used for shifting.

The first so many degrees of throttle/shift handle movement is for the shift function only. Then the throttle portion takes over.

It is normal for the gears to clunk when shifting into gear. Moreso perhaps when going into forward than in reverse.

If the motor RPM increases when shifting then I am guessing that the control handle is being moved too far such that the throttle is being advanced at the same time that the shift function occurs.

Was the service manual procedure used when installing the throttle cable and the shift cable?

I will bring a protractor on Sunday to see how close to 33 degrees is engaging. I am still breaking the engine so being careful not to over rpm the engine per instructions. I was hoping the shifter could be somehow tuned to achieve engaging at a lower RPM. Stay tuned, I will report back angle of engagement - there is a screw in the front of the control but I think it deals with stiffness. I will play with that too.

The control handle should shift the motor into gear without the throttle cable moving at all.

What normally happens is the idle RPM will go down a bit due to the propeller putting a load on the motor.
