Hi
Can some one help me please......
took the RIB out last week but didn't even get on the plane because as soon as I opened the throttle, to anything past tickover, the engine seemed to misfire and would not rev past about 2800-3000 rpm. Just seemed as if it was running on two cylinders instead of three. Fuel getting to carbs ok (filter clean, hoses and pumps all good). New fuel this morning on the way to the slip. Swapped plugs over to new ones, all ok. All electrical connections seem ok. I'm thinking maybe a coil breaking down??? Or some one suggested a faulty rev limiter??? I've owned plenty of outboards before and luckily never had to tamper with any of them, until now. Has any one had a similar problem to this and can maybe shed some light on the matter? All help greatly appreciated. I have since been told it is probably the CDi unit by an experienced friend. Does anyone know where I can get a re-con or used unit from (UK or USA)?
Regards
Jiz
The motor is a 1990-1992 yamaha 60hp autolube triple.

Hi
I had similar problem, tapping on the float bowls with a spanner made it go away, so I suspect sticky needle and seat or maybe faulty float(rubbing against carb side or punctured). Be careful when tapping on float bowls, with engine running, boat might suddenly take off.

pretty sure its not fuel related! Any one had a cdi fault that caused these sorts of symptoms?

Re: Yamaha 60hp outboard fault, CDi unit?

After two weeks down at the workshop it would appear that it is no further forward. Went down to see the guy on tuesday, to my surprise the guy said they ran the engine prior to trying a cdi unit from another engine and it ran sweet as a nut all through the rev range, the problem seemed to have dis-appeared. He said he would try it again on wednesday and let me know the outcome, Thursday now and I have heard nothing! Any way I am starting to lose my faith a little bit , two weeks and still boatless. If any one out there has any more ideas please let me know as I am getting severe withdrawal symptoms!!!
Regards
Jiz
