Hi.
I recently obtained a nice little air cooled Yamaha 5BS 661.
I first got it running nicely after rebuilding the fuel pump (which has been incorrectly put together but the previously owner).
However, I noticed a pinched hose going from the the 90 degree (no 40 in picture below) intake between the carb and the cylinder, also going into the side of the cylinder. I fixed the hose and rerouted it but the motor doesn't run well any longer.
I then teared down the carb to clean and check it, and I noticed that the vent / connector (41 in attached picture) on the intake doesn't let air through in any direction. What is the purpose of this vent?
After the engine stopped working it felt like it ran too rich. If i removed the sparkplug, cleaned it, put it back, it would run for 5 sec before getting wet again refusing to run.
How can it be removed from the intake for inspection? Just pulling? I am afraid to break it.
