Hi
I am going to look at a 50hp yamaha engine and would like some info before i go:
I think age is mid to late 90s is there anyway of telling from numbers?
what should the compressions be?
Anything else i should know?
Any help would be great
Thanks very much

Re: yamaha 50hp

Can't tell you much about that motor but shoot for at least 100 lbs psi and within 10% cylinder to cylinder.
You might do a little research right here to see what parts are available.I did a very quick scan through the NAPA marine products catalog the Yamaha section seemed pretty good.See if thgey will let you pull the drain on the gearcase just enough to see what comes out Should not be milky. You might go through the forum here to see what pops up.

Best of my recollection, most of those motors had somewhere in the 150 lb range of compression. They should be basically the same on all cylinders.
