Hi people and thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I have a Yamaha 50hp 4 stroke of 2000 vintage (F50AET - 200hrs) which is spraying water out externally from around the rubber oil pan drain tube, with nothing from the exit points above the oil drain tube. It looks to be leaking out from the void between the internal oil sump case and the outer leg case around the rubber drain tube if you can get my meaning.

The engine is all ok with no water in oil, telltale working very well and everything running as per normal etc but water is not supposed to come out of that particular spot! I went to a Yamaha dealer today, showed him a video of the problem and he looked at me like a dog which had just been shown a card trick! Held his head to the side and said "bring it in because I have never seen that one before".

Any ideas on how I can fix this and has anyone had this problem?

Thanks again.

Re: Yamaha 50hp 4 stroke leaking water

Ok, so after looking at exploded parts view of the oil sump and outer case etc, I am now thinking that the problem may be a cracked water pipe which is leaking and filling up the empty area with water while still having enough pressure and volume to service the engine cooling.

Does anyone have an opinion on if this may be the problem and also is it an easy job to get to and replace the water pipe (from impeller housing to engine)?

Thanks....

Have you pulled the cowling and inspected for leaks under there?

To replace water tube to power head may take power head removal, service manual should give that info

Thanks for the reply,

Yes done all the visual checks and the leak is internal. I was afraid of the power head removal and will look into that when I locate a service manual.

Sorry to tell you but the water supply tube had split on mine and had to be replaced. Tube was leaking water and filling the space between the oil sump and outer leg case. It looks like it was damaged (or perhaps unseated ??) when I changed the impeller and reasembled the lower leg. It's not an easy or cheap replacement but had to be done. (Mechanic fixed mine)
