i bought a boat a couple of nights ago the motor is not going so i bought it as is now there are two things that happen when trying to start for some reason once the batterys volts dropped a little low the engine would pop but not start now once i put a battery jump starting pack onto the battery the motor cranked over took a little effort but managed to start and ran fine do these yamaha 40hp (roughly 90mdl) have some device that stops them from starting if the volts on a battery drop low? also the motor was very hard to start it would start than stall could this be due to the low powered battery or a fuel/fuel pressure problem?

A low battery will not spin the motor fast enough to fire. You may also have a fuel restiction in the system. Very often the carbs need rebuiding when a motor has sat up.
