yamaha 40 stupid question

where is the water supposed to come out from the water pump. I noticed after taking the cover off what appeared to be a fitting where I have seen water on other engines coming out in a fine stream. When running mine with a motor flusher I noticed water coming out thru the exhaust and up on the back of the housing near the cover. Is this where it is supposed to be coming out. Its on a 88 yamaha 40 I recently purchased.

the tell-tale hole is if you stand behind your engine on the right(stbd) side you should see a small round black plastic fitting and if you take the cowl off you'll see a hose going from their back around to the left side and onto the exhaust plate.<br />good motor the yamaha 40!
