I have a 1999 c40 3 cylinder 2 stroke tiller motor no oil injection. It is in beautiful condition but it gives trouble cold starting. I have cleaned the carbs thoroughly and tested the prime start solenoid for proper resistance and to make sure the needle moves after supplying voltage. Issue is it starts right away but once it comes off the fast idle it conks out. I can turn the key and it starts right away but as soon as that high idle kicks off it conks again. Might take about 3 times of it doing that before it stays running normal. Once it is warmed up it is flawless. Question is there anything I can do to make it not conk out like that? Other question is when cold started the rpms almost instantly go up to like 4000 rpm and hold there for a little while before it kicks down to normal idle. Is it supposed to rev that high 4k plus when cold started? This is with the throttle handle turned to the slowest position please help me. Thanks

I know it's been a while since you posted. but I have the same or similar engine. When it was running the best it ever has, I always had to start it at least twice before it would stay running. However, 4k sounds high., Mine ran up between 2 and 3K at cold start. Is your normal (warm) idle in spec?
