Yamaha 4 Stroke Phantom Alarm?

I have a 2001 Yamaha F115 4 Stroke that starts and runs fine, however lately an alarm has been sounding at high RPM (between 5300-5800).
Neither the oil or overtemp indicator go on and the motor continues to run smoothly (although I quickly slow down when the alarm sounds).
After letting the motor idle for a minute or so I run it back up slowly to 4,500 RPM or so and everything seems fine. The water pump outlet stream seems normal as does everything else. Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks

Yep - How long has it been since the impeller & thermostats were replaced? The teltale is not the best indicator of the condition of the waterpump.

Thanks for the suggestions.
SoLittle, the Impeller and Thermostats are original and of course have never been replaced. I will have that done.
Skeets, there is a Fuel Separator on the engine and at the beginning of the season it looked OK(No water obvious in the fuel) but I guess the question is what do I look?
Once again thanks for the help. I love my Yamaha and want to keep it running right.

Skeets, I just noticed that in my first reply I stopped before I said what to look "for" in the last sentence. Guess I gotta proof read everything before it gets sent out, Thanks again.
