I'm new to outboards and purchased a new 4HP Yamaha 4 stroke this summer. Have a question in regards to starting it. When cold I pull the choke out and it will start on 1 or 2 pulls. I use motor on a sailboat and after sailing for example 2 hours normally it starts on the first pull no problem. Lately it's been giving me trouble starting when warm. The engine is warm so I do not use the choke. It is acting as though it is flooded for some reason? Normally once I shut the motor off when sailing, I then close the internal tank air valve, close the fuel **** which shuts off the fuel flow, lift the motor out of water with motor mount and tilt the motor up so the prop is not dragging in the water.

Question IF I lifted the motor and tilted it before shutting off the fuel **** could that be floading the carb and causing issues starting it later??? I think on occassion I'm doing this by mistake. Any help appreciated... Don

Maybe try shutting off fuel **** several seconds before turning off the motor so carb float bowl won't be so full and flood motor when you tilt it up?

Thanks I'll that and see what happens.. I mean it does not mention this as flooding problem in the owners manual however it sure seems like it could be.
