Background: Alumacraft 16'7" VT 20" transom with 2005 Nissan 25 l/s e-start remote now all run good with 2-3 person & excellent solo in 1'-2' wind lop 3'-6' long period swell. Ocean use winter & summer. Looking for spare motor & recent purchase 1983 Suzu DT8 (hp) s/s with cyl press. 140/140 easy start idle & run-up in barrel; good telltale apparent little use or damage but otherwise unknown & as yet untested. Requires transom bracket. i have not yet looked at lower end gear oil.
Option now is Yama 30 tiller m/s with cyl press. 130,130,115 on 7 pulls; rptd un-used 8 yr. clean under cowl but not as yet run up, unknown otherwise though seller garage is clean. Advised can test on boat & if unsuitable rtn. Bottom 1&1/2" skeg broken off & propellor was replaced by current owner who says that he ran motor with muffs at least once ea. year for ~1/2 hr & turned on day that i viewed. Asking $800. i know that a 30 hp 3 cyl @ 140 lb is no spare & 25 Nissan remote is obviously not v practical to mount in pinch, but consider Yam as pot. main motor & if so req. control box or adapters.
User is not esp. knowledgable in repair (for shame)though have operated var. outboards on s/w ~ 30 yr. Qn here for those who may know is whether ther are any particular concerns wrt this model/yr esp. wrt pot. maintenance or repair &/or specific things to look for. i am concerned abt. 3 carbs vs. 1 age (16 vs 2) & weight (140 vs 120) but think that there are benefits.
Any input here is welcome. Oh yes, i pd $600 for the Suzu & likely have option to sell for same while Yama may not last long & if does there is a hint. Apology for long post.
