Hi Everybody !

I own a 1997 Yamaha 30 HP long shaft / elec. start oil injection o/b . My
friend timed the motor for me and it sure seems to be lacking now in top end
performance . He is now gone on vacation and is no help .
I have been all over town and no one seems to sell the manual for this
engine . Does anyone here have a website or a copy of the pages out of a
manual on how I can put the engine back to where it was ? i.e.. The steps
involved , I have a good Snap-On timing light . It was set at -5 deg (
Advanced I take it ) and his Yamaha manual he had said the motor should be
at 0 deg timing for a 97 . It sure degraded the performance . Can anyone
help me out here ? Much appreciated !!!! Thanks !!

Jeff

Re: Yamaha 30 HP Timing Question

hey Jeff, I have a '96, yamaha 30hp long shaft. Did you ever get this problem resolved? I'm having a similar problem. Bought it used from a very detailed and tidy owner. He stored the boat in a carpeted garage. it was stored over the past year and he did put a teaspoon of oil in each cylinder to keep the rings in good shape. my problem is it runs rough at low rpms and it has no power under any load. It can get up on plain and that's it. Here's what I've done so far;
new gas, spark plugs, and a carb cleaning. the filter looks clean and there's no air in the oil line. I've let it idle for over an hour to burn off any oil in the carb.
any advice would be appreciated.
