My yamaha 250 starts great runs great in top speed but it vibrates and rattles in low idle in gear. Any ideas would be graetly appreciated. The engine is an ox66 model year 2000. It seems to smooth out at 1000 rpms.

Did it just start doing this? It it more than the bottom two cylinders dropping out during slow speed as designed? Big block yamaha motors do shake at idle.

My 96 250 Shakes and rattles in gear at low RPM. MY Mech said it is the motor mounts. I've checked out the carbs, ignition, and timing. He claims they get soft over time or if they have been stressed. On local Yamaha dealer told me it was a big job and he would not touch it.

i have a 1998 225 saltwater model yamaha--- when first started, lot's of shanking going on-- have to run at 1200 r.p.m. to keep it going---talk to a lot's of owner's with the same motor----they all say this is the norm for yamaha---after the warm-up--- it run's great---jim

Re: yamaha 250 vibration in low idle

hello
I noticed the same thing in my 98 225 saltwater series. I thought it was shaking waaay too much.
I do notice it is a good sign that when it starts to do it more than what I am used to seeing, that it is time for a good and thorough de-carbing.
De carbing sure settles mine down in a big way.
I switched from Yamaha Engine Tuner to Sea Foan Deep Creep from reading all the posts here about deep creep.
The last time I just de carbed at 1100 hours........I was goign to let the deep creep soak for 12 hours but actually ( not my original plan ) let it soak for 27 hours before starting my motor. The change was UNBELEIVABLE........it runs soooooooooo **** smooth now I can't beleive the difference. The engine runs like like ya wd'40'd the entire inside of the motor. The is no shaking of the motor at all.
Try a good de carbing with deep creep........I don't know if you will see the same results I have, but a good de carbing will never hurt and one thing is FOR SURE deep creep is all everyone says it is here.

Hi Check for a broke pinion gear. Its a common problem on that gear case. Check the magnet on the bottom drain screw for extra material.

Shaking is one thing. Vibration is another. Vibrations shouldnt be there.
