Hi, Can anyone tell me approximately where my engine should be idling? It stalls a lot at idle and idles around 350-400 rpms. Is that low? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks,

Murray-

I have a 97 yamaha 225. It idles at 650-700 rpm. Is yours carb or efi? Did you run a compression check? Need more info.

Blackcreek, It has carbs and the compression is 110 on all cylinders. Thanks,

Murray-

Did it just start doing this or did you buy it like that? If it sat for a long time suspect gunk in your carbs, otherwise check plugs, plug wires and cap resistance, fuel pumps, and then adjust your linkage. A good manual on your motor will show you how to do all this very easily.I do not know the idle speed of a carb motor but I would guess it is around 700-800 rpm
