Hi, my Yamaha 250 does not want to idle. It is fine when put in gear (forward or reverse) however at idle it will die after 15 seconds to a minute and is followed by what sounds like a short burst of compressed air. Any ideas what would cause this sound? Thanks,

Murray-

I forgot to mention that I just started premixing my oil/fuel. Can adding too much oil cause poor idling?

M-

Hmmmmmmmmm................

Sounds like it might be a sneeze you are reffering to when it dies. That would indicate a lean condition.

Although the idle down and stumble/stall might be needle/seat or internal carb leakage related. If true then one carb rich and one lean.

Maybe just leaning out and dieing.

Does adding pressure to the primer bulb during this issue temporarily correct the issue?

Other possablilties might include airleak in fuel connector causing fuel supply to run out during idle, poor fuel pump performance, air leak or fuel restriction elsewhere in supply.

I believe those motors also have a low speed section of the ignition components that also could be starting to fail. Look towards fuel delivery first then carb(s) next, then ignition.
