IT RUNS GOOD,,BUT QUITE A BIT OF WHITE SMOKE WHEN IDLEING ,FINE WHEN CRUISING AND INCREASED OF SPEED.
THE FUEL OIL RATIO IS 100:1 ,,BUT AM TOLD 50:1 IS BETTER..CAN ANYONE HELP WITH POSSIBLE PROBLEMS FOR WHITE SMOKE AT IDLE ? AND SAFE /BETTER FUEL OIL RATIO ?
IS UNLEADED PETROL A PROBLEM FOR AN OLD OUTBOARD ?

1st off turn off the cap lock.

50:1 never hurts
100:1 may not leave enough oil on the crank and bearings while stored

As with all motors white smoke could be water vapor
Blue smoke is oil
black smoke is too much fuel

hi i have a 15 hp Yamaha and i use 100:1 never any problem. After running it check the spark plug for water or milky oil. Do you have any additives in the gas sea foam or any cleaner

Thanks for reply, it is white smoke, so take it,it is water vapour. Is this normal ,or am i right guessing there is water getting into the piston cylinder. Any further ideas to a fix on this
1st off turn off the cap lock.

Re: Yamaha 25 de 2 stroke (white smoke idle)

Top be honest, i have not a clue what Gas Sea foam is, or anything about the cleaning . I know a small bit about engines. I am considering putting the outboard in for service, but if it something i can handle myself ,then so be it.
99yam40 seems to be right with the water vapour, just need to find a possible reason to fix the problem, and be pointed in the right direction before i strip the motor to bits ,then stand there scratching my head puzzled

I checked the plugs, a small deposit of carbon, but not much at all that would raise an issue of worry

If no signs of water on plugs then I would decarbon with sea foam or yamaha ring free and then see what things look like

the only oil in that motor is the oil you add to the fuel, doing a decarbon will not help, the smoke is simply burning oil, and at idle it is very common for premix 2 strokes to do that. have you tried a better brand of oil?

Re: Yamaha 25 de 2 stroke (white smoke idle)

Try the Pennzoil 100% Synthetic Outboard Motor Oil at 50:1 ratio. Depending on your weather conditions like temperature and relative humidity, they can cause more smoke/water vapor to appear under certain conditions(like the exhaust pipe on a car early on a cool morning). 2 stroke motors do produce some smoke, and at idle it's more easily visible since your boat is moving very slowly or not at all. I doubt you have a problem, but good luck!

or, seeing as it is a yamaha, why not try Yamalube?

Yamalube is fine, but maybe less smoke with 100% Synthetic?...
