I have a 2001 Yamaha OX66 with 550 hrs. that cuts off after running 5-10 miles and will not restart. It will turn over but won't start up and run. If it sits overnight it cranks right up and runs fine for 5-10 miles and cuts off.I have carried it to two different shops and looked at by the two best mechanics in my area and they can find nothing wrong with motor. Anybody had a problem like this and know what I can do to fix it?

Re: Yamaha 225 OX66

Hello
dont go back to those mechanics. find a yamaha tech.did you test fuel rail pressure at the failure point? have you ever changed your vst filter? did you test for spark at the failure point? yamaha electronics are almost bullet proof but they do fail. in 20 some odd years I have seen one ECU fail on a v6. saw a lot replaced but only one that actually failed.this trouble shooting can only be performed while the failure is present.just remember this engine must follow the same rules ole Evinrude did in the 30's. suck squeeze bang and blow. if all occur at the correct time all is well.has anyone used the diagnostic light on it while running?
be careful running with the diagnostic light attached as no oil transfer occurs . you may find a bad ground for the ECU or a bad stator.I know EFI is intimidating to some but its really very simple. just eliminate one subsystem at a time and it will run again :) :)
good luck and keep posting

Run that engine with a fuel pressure guage hook up to the schrader valve. Keep and eye on your fuel pressure. Has the engine sat any length of time? It sounds like your running out of fuel or fuel pressure to the system.
