Re: Yamaha 225 4 stroke

Both Yamaha and Honda are doing 225 V6,s this year.I have not yet seen either on the water, but I would expect the usual first year glitches from each motor. The thing I would look closely at is the dealer support in your geographical area.

Trailer Boat magazine reported on the Yamaha last issue and reports on the Honda in the current issue. I hope to own the Yamaha on my next boat.

avidda, have you had any experience with the 225 four stroke yet? I have been contemplating the same move and have exhausted myself trying to find the same info.

I noticed your message was a little dated, but I own a 225/4 and I am very pleased. I can't hear it idle, I have to check my guages. I push a Hydra Sports 20ft, a very deep hull with 105 gals of gas, fishing gear and 3 fishing buddies off shore at 50mph. Avg burn rate 3 mph.

OK Trevor, it appears you are soliciting. That is not the intention of these threads.

I am going to delete the threads that promote Honda only and run down the competition.

The board and threads are to help certain situations with a particular engine.

Re: Yamaha 225 4 stroke

My father in law owns a 225 Yammy, on a cape horn with huge fuel tanks, etc. It doesnt have as much get up and go as the merc 225 he had on it, but the fuel economy, low noise, smooth idle (and trolling speed), and reliability has impressed him enough to deal with the slight loss of power out of the hole. The only problem he has had with it is a squeeling noise, almost like a belt loose. But it has not idenified the problem yet, and it has not caused any problems to date.

Re: Yamaha 225 4 stroke

We repowered a Grady White a few months back, removing a 250 yamaha and installing a 225 four stroke. The owner was attempting to get better range with his boat. The owner said he lost about 4 mph on top end but the fuel economy went out of site. He hasn't really put the numbers down to get a real picture, but said it was taking him about half the fuel to fish the same places he fished before. As for quiet, you can't hear it run. The jury is still out on what the maintence costs/repair on these big beasts are going to be.
