My 2002 Yamaha 4 stoke all of a sudden is having problems starting after engine is hot ( shut down to drift while fishing try to start get nothing.) Mechanics checked batteries everything ok they look at it and sometimes can't duplicate problem. I run boat shut off will not start. At the same time it seems when adjusting trim since this problem started I get a very stong vibration that never happened before. Any ideas??

More info needed. Is the motor turning over with the starter and not firing or is nothing happening when you turn the key.

Nothning is happening, just a slight click noise.
It appears I let the engine cool a bit and it starts after 5 or so minutes. I am going to have the mechanic take it for a 15 minute ride and shut off in order to duplicate what they can't seem to duplicate at dock.

Heat is the enemy of electronic/electrical parts. Sounds like something in the starting loop is wrong. If you could crank it with the rope and everything was OK it would suggest the starter solenoid or else is wrong, it would exonerate the ignition system.

Tough to pull start a 225!! Is the neutral switch OK? Corrosion in contacts? Loose contacts? Are your batteries no maintenance or do they need distilled water added?

Heat is affecting it somehow.

I would be looking for a loose ground (battery) connection at the engine block.

An update to my problem. The mechanic came to pick up the boat today batteries were stone dead. Which reminded me that after getting back to dock, after being stranded yesterday, I had just enough battery to get the engine out of the water. After charging batteries mechanic ran boat 20 minutes and could not duplicate starting problem.
