My qusstion concerns one which has been sitting on my dads ski boat and used less than 10 times in the last 7 years he has owned it. Im thinking of buying the boat but im told Yamahas are expensive to fix. Prior to us owning the engine we beleive it was used in a commercial environment. Last time we used it (2 years ago) it was running fine and it has never really missed a beat. Should i be warry buying a yammie v6 of this age???

the answer to your question lies here: did they take good care of the engine? did they fog the cylinders before storage for long periods of time, or empty the old gas out before storage and use new gas every spring? If any motor isnt taken care of, it will be expensive to replace, regardless of year, make, or anything! if it ran good, then try it again and see how it runs, then if it does run good, buy it and take care of it! I currently have a 1985 35 HP Merc and have had no problems with it other than the usual water pump replacement and i put on new steering cables because the original ones were still on there! its a real beauty of a motor and is 20 years old! so, if he took care of the motor before, during, and after use, then go ahead and buy it. all motors can be expensive to repair, it all just depends on what breaks and who fixes it!!!
