I have an 85 Yamaha 200 and the trim/tilt stopped working. I had raised it 1/4 the way up stopped and then tried again up/dowm and it would not move. The tilt hydraulic motor sounded like it was working in both directions. Does it need fluid? Where do I add it and how do I bleed it? Also in order to get it up I manually pushed the up button and kept pulling it up inch by inch. Is there any easy way to manually move it up and down?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Yamaha 200 trim/tilt stuck

On the right hand side of the transom bracket there is a small reservoir. Remove the screw and fill. It is a pain because the hole is vertical facing you. It is easier to do if you can get the engine up. The pump itself is self bleeding, just work the engine up and down and it will clear any air on it's own.

Re: Yamaha 200 trim/tilt stuck

I had the same problem.I filled my tank up and raised it up and lowered with the manual release screw but it did not help. So I took the shifter trim switch apart and found it was the same as a electric window switch. Inside is a little piece of aluminum that rocks back and forth on a piviot point. Like a window switch this piece gets bent and can't rock to the contact point. Flatten this out a bit and reinstall it. Mine has worked great for the last month. Don't bend it too far it is just a slight ajustment.

Mine is hex head cap screw. I believe it takes a 15mm wrench.

Re: Yamaha 200 trim/tilt stuck

Thenks for the help. I put fluid in but no change. I manuallly pushed the engine down and cannot get up even by lifting. My manual/tilt screw on the side is worn and may not be functioning. Could it possibly be I have moved it to manual and the tilt won't work ? How do I get the motor up?
