I have 2 stroke 200 hp outboard, carburators were cleaned, spark plugs changed (cables ok), fuel systems checked, but when it runs at minimun rpm shakes a lot, sometimes stops, it does not sound normal. When it runs over 3000 rpm seems to be ok, but below it is not normal. I am new on this, I bought a used boat, the mechanic tuned up the outboard, but one moth later I have this strange sound and shake. Someone can give an advice, Thanks.

Re: yamaha 200 problem at minimun rpm

Pull the spark plug wire boots off and check the connection of the metal hool/spring thing that connects the wire to the plug. My 200 Yamaha was doing the same thing. The plug wire itself was corroded right where that hook goes thru the wire. I cut mine back a inch and rehooked the sprign thing and all was well again. There was not enough jucie to fire thru the corrozion at lower rpm where at higher rpms it was.

Hawkeye,
I didn´t check this part of the spark cable, I´ll let you know the results, thanks!!

Colt

By the way, I run my boat in salt water, do you have any suggestion for maintenance, allways after a ride, I let the motor run with sweet water for few minutes, and wash everything.

Thanks again!!
