I have a 2007 VMAX 150 and a 1996 C85. Both run really well but the 150 never starts up as quick as the 85. Everything is in great working order in both. Clean carbs, plugs, fuel, timing has been checked both with a light and by manufacturer markings. Today, I noticed the 85hp is idle timed at 2°BTDC. Book calls for 7° ATDC. This has been my motor from day 1 it was brand new. Paint markings are all the same, nothing has been changed or rebuilt. It runs perfect so I'm going to leave it. WOT is about 23°BTDC. I'm thinking about maybe advancing the 150 idle timing a little for easier starting. Anyone ever try this?
