Yamaha 2 stroke crank bearing, to grease or not to grease?

Hello all,

I'm currently working on restoring a 2009 Yamaha 2 stroke short shaft. I have the engine partly disassembled and took off the oil seal housing (6L2-15396-00-1S) today to replace the two oil seals and O-ring. I can see the exposed crank bearing (93306-305U3-00) behind the housing and notice that there is no grease in it. My question is would it be recommended to put grease on it before reassembling? I was thinking of putting some Yamalube marine grease in it for lube but I'm not sure if it would be fine or cause the engine to maybe smoke or do some other kind of damage. What do ya'll recommend?

What motor ?-----Crankshaft bearings are lubricated by oil mixed with the fuel.

put some straight 2 stroke oil on it if you want to protect it until it is sealed up and a running motor

Hi, it's a 2009 International 25hp [ 25MSHH (6L28) [050] ]. Thanks for the tip. I sort of thought the same thing...first time owning and using a two stroke.

Alright, I didn't even think to use the oil you mix with the gas for lube. I'll do that until it's ready to reassemble. Thanks!

well the motor will not last if you don't mix oil and fuel... not sure what you mean by giving it a try? heavy grease might block the passages for fuel/oil mix to reach the bearing long enough that it overheats. a drop or 2 of tcw3 is all that I use on bearings just before the crank case gets screwed down. dont want oil on a bearing exposed for longer than you need to for risk of contamination.
