Was there water flow before replacing the impeller? Are you referring to the pisser when not having water flow? You need to take another look at the impeller to make sure it's installed right and maybe run a wire thru the pisser tube. Are you running the motor on muffs or it a tank. If in a tank make sure the water level is above the pump. How/why did the impeller come apart?

I hardly ever used the 2.5 , also have a 6hp , yes impeller fins are gone .
Same impeller it came with 10 years ago - yeah I know - should have been changed long ago .
Was running in 5gal. bucket - it goes deep enough to submerge inlet but just read that water level should go above where impeller/impeller housing sit . There was no water pumping whatsoever when I started it - hadn't been started in a few years ,, 3-4 .
Finally read the owners manual -laf ..
Got a clothes hanger ready - just busy right now - will get on it soon'ish .
Would compressed air blown into the pisser exit hole be OK or would it blow the motor to tiny pieces ??
Innerwebz says Shop has to pull the complete lower unit - don't like the sound of that $-$ .

why afraid of pulling lower unit?
that has to be pulled to replace the pump anyway.
dropping the lower and inspecting the pump again is a very good idea since you ran the motor with not enough water to get to the pump.
those pumps do not like pumping just air, you may have damaged it already

You have to find the bits and pieces

Not the lower - I meant the drive unit - the whole shabang off the bottom of the engine .
Already pulled and replaced impeller - no water due to clog.

Compressed air at pisser exit port ? OK idea or no ?

compressed air is used all of the time ,I usually use it while the motor is running on muffs so the air can move debris around and hopefully out with the rest of the water flowing out, removing the stat also gives it another exit point at the top of the power head.

not sure, but maybe you are talking about pulling the power head off not the lower unit or drive unit

OK on the using air to push out impeller debris .
NOT - taking powerhead off ,, if air doesn't work I'll drop the drive unit .
I'll be changing the impeller every 2 years from here on out - that's for sure .
Thank you folks for all the help ! ! !

since the pieces on impeller went into the tube from the pump, I would see if you could flush it out the same way it went in.
not sure if you could rig up something to the stat opening to force water with water hose in from there

Good idea - i should have thought of that .
Bet I can find some small fittings in the plumbing dept. @ lowes depot .
Plus I only have a tiny air compressor .
