Hi guys,

I just bought a Yamaha 2.5 outboard engine from another country and I need to transport to my country. I want to transport it by bus with some travel agency that does good transports also.
The guy I bought it from advised me not to do it because if I don't transport it in a certain position the oil will get into the carburater and destroy the engine.
I read the manual and found no such warning. I only found that I should take care to fully empty the engine of water, so water does not get into the cilinder...nothing about oil.
The engine has gas and oil in it at the moment.
How should I proceed with the transport? Is there any danger of liquids spilling out of the engine if everything is closed as it should be? More important, is there a posibility to destroy the engine as the guy said by mixing something in it?
If I cannot transport it with the liquids inside, how can I get them out before transport without visiting a yamaha service?

Thank you.

All oil should be drained from the motor. Hopefully it has not been run is such a time that any water within the block has dried out.

Can you mark the package so that the bus company transports it such that the power plant side is elevated? A sign that says "this side up".

Once you get it, remove the sparkplug and make sure that you can rotate the motor several turns. Then add the gas and oil and fire her up.

Maybe get the folks in the other country to remove the spark plug and put an ounce or so of motor oil in there, replace plug and ship it....

You mean put some oil in the cilinder? Will I need to dry it somehow after I'll get it? Or will the motor start if I do that?

Any idea on how should I extract the gas and oil out of the engine without putting its head down?

By the way. It was test run two days ago. How long will it take for water to dry out inside it? Would a week do it?

Thank you guys

After you receive the motor, remove spark plug and crank motto over a few times to blow out the oil....the oil will protect motor during shipment....
