I need to get a trim tab to adjust tiller torque. Just bought this motor used, and it's got a flat type anode only above the prop, no trim tab, it's not broken etc. Just a square anode with sits flush in the square cutout on the motor. . Not the type with the small wing. When I google this issue, what comes up is part # [h=1]6E8-45251-01[/h] which looks strange, like a wing or something. I've never seen a trim tab like that before.
Does that look right? You can google that part number for a look see.

Thanks much!

If there's none available then make one from a small stainless steel plate attached to side/rear of lower unit with screws and bend at appropriate angle to neutralize steering torque....

1997 9.9 uses a 61N-45251-00-00 anode. Not a trim tab anode.

Try changing the trim setting and see what happens.

Dang, then I'm gonna have to fab something up. I have the motor mounted with cav plate even with bottom of 1236 welded hull (12ft long 36wide bottom). Runs 23mph but pulls to right side, can't let go of tiller for sure lol. I have the trim pin set just like I want it. Pretty fast for a 9.9 I would think, great little all around hunting rig.

Robert.. I need to make it minimal and somewhat protected like a normal trim tab, due to lots of stumps and logs I'm crossing in this area. I'll think about it and come up with something, doesn't seem like a major deal.

A 1/16 inch stainless steel plate about 2 inches by 3 inches....mounted with some small stainless screws to back/side of lower unit....bend it to suit....should do the trick for you!

Ok. You don’t need a trim tab or anything like it. All you need to do is tighten up your steering tension screw.
there will be a knob or butterfly you can tighten in to put more friction on it. If it’s slackened right off or missing...it will always be dangerously loose.
also...if possible the cav plate or av plate should be ideally slightly above the line of the lower hull. That’s for another day though. The steering tension adjustment screw is your solution for now.
