Yamaha 1993 85hp lower unit

I was installing a new water pump in the my buddies motor and once we got it all back together it seems it is stuck in reverse. When you turn the prop forward it clicks like a slip clutch. When you turn the prop in reverse it turn the drive shaft. Anyone have any ideas.<br /><br />And No I don't have a manual and don't intend to buy one.<br /><br />Thanks for any help though.<br /><br />Ranger

Take the lower unit back off and make sure the thing is in nuetral. Then have someone line up the splines on the shift rod while you hold the unit in place. Then bolt it up. LG

I turned the shifting shaft every which way the other night and couldn't seem to get it out of Reverse. I walked out side yesterday and put a pipewrench on it and put it right into neutral. Going to stab her back together this morning after a nap. Working nights is heck. Thanks for the reply. R
