Yamaha 150 Won't idle

I purchased a boat with a 1987 150 Yamaha. It runs great at speed but won't idle & I have to choke it a lot to ge t it started. The idle stop screw (for the ganged carbs) is two-blocked already. Any ideas??

You need to get a manual. I don't know the carb setup on that particular engine but what you are describing sounds like you need to enrichen the carb idle mixtures. If turning the idle mixture screws (check with manual which way to turn screw to enrich, some go counterclockwise some go clockwise depending on whether they are metering air or fuel) doesn't work it may be time to dismantle the carbs and do a thorough cleaning/rebuild.

tHANKS. yOU WERE RIGHT ON. i HAD A GUY COME BY TO LOOK AT IT (yAMAHA MECHANIC). yOU COULD SMELL BAD GAS. hE TORE THE CARBS DOWN AND CLEANED THEM & NOIW IT WORKS GREAT!
