I've got a Yamaha 150 about 3 years old on a 20' tri-hull party barge. The engine is runing great, but I cannot get the RPM's up past 3200 RPM. There is no miss to the engine, and the prop is the same one I had last year when it would easily get to 5K RPM. I am quite certain it is a linkage issue and not an engine issue. Can anyone replicate this problem and tell me how the fixed the linkage?
More data: The linkage does not feel smooth. It is tighter than it was last year. Lube?

My wife was messing with it while I was looking at the engine and she shifted "fast" into gear and it went up to 5KRPM. I cannot replicate the fast shift fixing the problem again, but it does again make me think it is linkage.

If I put the boat in idle and run it up it only goes up to about 3600 RPM but runs smooth.

Thnx for the help. I searched the site for about 10 minutes and not come up with any older posts

no one knows what motor you are talking about , maybe not even you so you did not share that info.
I guess since it is around 3 years old it maybe a F150 fuel injected motor.
inspecting plugs and monitoring rail pressure would be a start.
I see no reason linkage could cause this unless the linkage is not opening the throttle plates all the way. have you ;looked to see if that is happening
