Hi Guys,

my engine heat alarm is going off, the water impellar was change in October with the service. So i checked the sensors and they were working all fine. I isolated the left bank of the engine that was triggering the alarm. I then checked the thermostats they seemed fine. When the alarm goes off you can hold your hand on the heads for some time over 20secs.

Does anyone have any suggestions

Thanks

Mike

Well you sure aren't overheating. You have a sticky thermostat, an over-sensitive sensor, or it's actually getting that hot near the sensor. That can happen if a blockage in the block or head is preventing full flow. It can also happen if there is enough mineral build-up on the outer cylinder surface to insulate the metal from the water. Either way I'd think the heads need to come off.

The insulated cylinder theory is most apparent when the motor cools fine at lower RPMs and only sounds the alarm at high throttle.

Re: Yamaha 130 over heating

Hi All

Just a quick update, I pulled the water jacket gasket off and they were broken. I then replaced them cleaned the water channels out and replaced the thermostats. Tested this past weekend and the engine didn't over heat.

Cheers

Mike
