My Brother just bought a used bass boat with a yamaha 115hp (about a 1985 model) and I was wondering what, if any, inherited problems these engines may have...thanks for any info you can offer.........

Hi,
Just make a "tune up"* of the engine and it will probably last for many more years.

*Could include such things as new impeller kit, new gearcase oil(+gasket), new spark plugs and grease all greasing points (with water resistant grease), check over so no loose connections (electrical), fuel bulb-fuelline-fuelfilter OK etc.

/Bo

Re: yamaha 115

I had a 1984 Yammy 115 for about 7 years and it was a great motor! In fact, I wish I still had it. The guy that bought the boat from me tells me it's still going strong and he hasn't had any trouble with it at all. Outboards will give you many years of trouble free service IF YOU take care of them, perform regular maintenance, etc.
Backlash
