yamaha 115 tilt/trim

as soon as engine turn over....engine goes down to stop...is that proper...goes up and down fine...but can't bring it up after starting...until i sit in neutral...if i go in drive...it goes down to stop again....any ideas...

If I'm reading this correctly, you are trying to operate in the Tilt range. They're made to do that. The two trim rams hold the motor at various trim angles. Above that the Tilt ram in the middle takes over. It's not strong enough to hold a motor under thrust. They don't want it operated up there anyhow. Steering gets strange, the water intakes can come out of the water, and the bracket is no longer tucked in between the lateral supports which could snap the swivel bracket.

thanks alot..i have the manual...and i'm arguing with my father in law the expert...that tilt is different than trim/tilt....i just didn't know if i was doing things correctly...i took a boating course years ago for safe boating and navigation...i wouldn't boat without one...and thanks alot for the reply...
