I have experience helping rebuild 2 auto engines so I'm thinking about tackling a YAMAHA 115 ob with a blown connecting rod. The boat, motor and trailer are FREE. The owner says it blew a rod, I don't know more than that yet.
My questions are.
1- is there any tricks to seeing if the crank is bad before pulling the powerhead OFF the motor? or can this be done without pulling the powerhead OFF at all?
2- is there even a chance a rod can snap and the crank still be good?
Otherwise I'm going to part out the motor and buy another used motor. This has power trim/tilt and is otherwise clean. I see so far new parts are available (rod, piston, gaskets $250+) and if possible would be worth the shot of a first outboard rebuild.
All I know so far is its a Yamaha 115 1991 or so 2 stroke
