Hi John,<br /> A Stator produces electrical current.The flywheel is embedded with magnets which spins around the stator.The stator is a series of wound coils that react with the magnets.The electrical energy(amps)is sent to the switchboxes/coils to produce spark,etc.Stators on outboards are usually located under the flywheel.That is my best interpretation,sorry. :) I'm sure your local boatyard would show you one. :p

Thank you very much for the information. I was told that my stator was bad on my motor-after several attempts to locate the problem myself(no mechanic). Thanks again.
