What is a stator? What does it do? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Hi John,<br /> A Stator produces electrical current.The flywheel is embedded with magnets which spins around the stator.The stator is a series of wound coils that react with the magnets.The electrical energy(amps)is sent to the switchboxes/coils to produce spark,etc.Stators on outboards are usually located under the flywheel.That is my best interpretation,sorry. I'm sure your local boatyard would show you one.

Thank you very much for the information. I was told that my stator was bad on my motor-after several attempts to locate the problem myself(no mechanic). Thanks again.
