I have a 1989 Yahama ProV150 that I have put a lot of hours on and it has always been a strong motor. A little over a month ago I took the boat out and after launching it was bogging really bad and wouldn't get on plane. After giving it gas and letting it bog for several minutes it would start to sound like it was going to go and then would go back to bogging several times before eventually clearing and taking off and then would run pretty normal the rest of the day. The bogging would only occur when the throttle was engaged but only for the first bit of the throttle and then it would clear and go on. The next day I took the boat out and same thing. Initial run after launching is really bad and then seems to clear up. At this stage the boat was clearing up on the initial run but only after a couple minutes of heavy bogging.

I changed spark plugs (gapped them correctly at .04 but noticed the plugs that came out were all .045). Changed a cracked fuel line I found and changed the fuel water separator housing as I located a crack in it and thought it may have an air leak. None of this seemed to make any difference. I have checked the compression and they are all reading between 135-145.

I removed the three carburetors to check for debris and to see the the needle/seat was sealing. The needle seems to be sealing as I couldn't blow air through the carbs. (Is it possible that sometimes the needle/seat is sealing properly and other times not causing this?) I did locate two floats in the carbs that seemed to be a little off so I got those level. Got the boat in the water and I am pretty much getting the same thing except now when I launch the boat its is like it is bogging and not hitting on all cylinders for the first run and now it never clears during the first run of the day. First run of the day will not get over 3700 RPM or around 30 MPH. After that, it will run pretty strong the rest of the day but still has a bog/choking sound at low throttle but I am able to get it up over 5000 RPM and around 50 MPH and it sounds really good at top speed once you are able to get it past its bogging. I feel like it is running really rich??? Any suggestions or other areas to check?
