I just purchased from Teleflex Marine, (Sea Star) front mount cylinder seal kit to repair a small leak in my Sea Star hydraulic steering unit. I also purchased Teleflex hydraulic steering fluid, (clear yellow). My unit has red fluid installed now. Can I add the new Teleflex fluid to the existing unit which has red fluid? I also need to add fluid to the Yamaha power trim. Can I use the Teleflex hydraulic fluid?

The red fluid in your steering system is automatic transmission fluid, it is just ok to use(maybe the seal failure reason) it is a last ditch use in my opinion, not good in cold climates, however ATF may be used in your power trim if necessary ,purge your steering, would be my suggestion

Or, it could be Mil5606 Hyd fluid which is also recommended to use in SeaStar systems, (cheaper than Teleflex fluid) . But since you don't know which it is, I'd drain it and use 5606 or Teleflex fluid.
