I got wind of this story last night when it broke and thought to myself, dear God I hope that at least a few souls made it out alive.

Today we find out that it was all an elaborate hoax that cost the Coast Guard thousands of dollars in wasted resources:mad:
:mad::mad:

This kind of stuff gets my blood boiling, I'm use to hearing idiots screwing around on the VHF Radio at times on the Delaware River, but this particular call was focused about 17 miles off shore
:confused:
You even had Good Samaritan boaters deviating from their off shore fishing charters to aid in the response.

I hope they catch whoever is responsible and prosecute to the maximum extent of the law and make them repay all of the wasted response expense.

The Coast Guard is busy enough dealing with the real life rescues; they shouldn't have to put up with crap like this.

I thought of the same thing regarding the drug trafficking or terrorist plot.

The news report I heard said they had a very similar incident last year on the exact same date.
