Y- Pipe Question

What is the purpose of the two smaller ports on the pipe? The bigger port is exhaust to the prop, the smaller ones are exhausting through the transom assembly. Never noticed till running on muffs.

Ayuh,..... Those are the idle relief ports,....

the idle relief ports are needed to reduce the back pressure enough so the boat continues to run at idle.
