XR2 Rebuild -- Removing Flywheel

Well, did a compression check and got some bad news. Pulled the heads and a rebuild is required. 3 out of 6 had no compression, pistons are burned out. Might just buy a rebuilt powerhead, not sure. Eitherway does anyone know where you can get the tool to hold the flywheel/starter ring so it can be removed? Or has anyone came up with a safe way of holding it in place to remove the lock nut? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. That will be very helpful. But I am more concerned with putting it back on. Impact will work taking it off but putting it on I will need to hold the flywheel somehow.

Re: XR2 Rebuild -- Removing Flywheel

I used a section of rope about 6' long and knotted one end. I set the knot in the groove of the flywheel and wrapped the rope CW around the flywheel (like you were going to use the rope to start the engine). Tied the free end of the rope to a short piece of pipe and held it to counter the force of the wrench to lossen the flywheel nut.

I am pretty sure this will also work to hold the flywheel when puttin er back on.
