I've got a Yamaha 2004 XLT 800 and water shot out the hole when I removed the spark plug and turned over the engine. I had the water hose running several minutes while trying to get it to crank. I pulled out the spark plug out and it shot water 10 feet high from the cylinder. I put the plug back in and it eventually cranked and ran the next day on the lake. It became very hard to crank but would run when cranked. Is there anything normal about that, like I ran too much water for too long trying to get it started. Sound like valves or gasket issue ?

Remembering water does not compress, did the engine try to lock up or make any abnormal noise while you were starting it? Did it run normal while using it on the lake?

I'm not exactly sure why, but you cannot do what you did on a jet ski. Don't worry, I learned this the hard way too. If you got it running, you are probably ok. Just remember that you have to start the ski before turning on the water, and turn water off prior to shutting off the ski. Did you take all of the plugs out and turn the engine over until water stopped comming out? This is what you need to do.

mwseaward, No abnormal noises with plugs back in. Like they dried themselves out then finally began to fire after turning engine over for a long time ?! It ran normal while on the lake. I just put a compression gauge on it and got 95 psi on both cylinders. I guess I did it correctly. I let it turn over a few times with gauge inserted in each sparkplug socket. A few days ago I said water came out sparkplug socket, I mean for EVERY up stroke a thick spout of water shot no less than 10 feet high. I'm just sort of lost.
