Xl1200 Dies Out When Slowing

Hi, I hope someone may offer some input, my xl1200 dies out everytime i come off the throttle. I am able to restart it again and bomb off but as soon as i slow down again it dies?? I have had the carbs stripped and cleaned by the boatyard and new plugs done. Not sure if this is important but it seems so start easier in land than in the water. Many thanks

first thing try adjusting the idle, some people set the idle too low because in the water it slows down from pump resistance and exhaust back pressure, on the trailer it should idle fast,, and as always you need to do a compression check just so you know the engine itself is ok
