Wrong starter motor?

Hello fellow outboard fanatics, I have a problem that needs a little attention. I bought this old Chrysler model 7071 outboard off of E-bay. It stated in the item description that he had just put a new starter on the motor and he could not get the motor to fire. When I picked up the motor this weekend and got it home, the starter is turning the correct way I think, its turning counterclockwise to engage the flywheel and turn it clockwise. But the pinion seems to need to go clockwise to engage the the flywheel. Also there is no way that you can get the bottom bracket on the starter.

Thanks for the replys,
Tony

Re: Wrong starter motor?

Well gentlemen i got this starter to turn the correct direction so the bendix drive meets the flywheel. I was able to do a compression test and the results were as follows cyl,1=120 2=125 and 3=120, but when I replaced the spark plugs The starter does not turn the motor very fast.It is an Arco starter if this helps. I am thinking the starter does not work very well under a load.

Is the battery good and hot? Are all connections clean and tight?

c/6

Hooty
