I think that'd be a nice addition to our trawler project. I looked on seabuddy.net and all I saw was the pics. Any idea where it's available from? I think Vetus sells rope rub rail kits IIRC.

I don't know if I like the looks of that rubrail.. Just feel like m finger would get snagged in that back part.

I wonder if you need to adjust the tension often.

If you fish you'll hate it.Hooks get snagged and are hard to remove.

Had the type that just pressed into the rubber rail as an insert, it held up well and didn't rip or tear on sharp dock edges like rubber does, but it did turn black and eventually got green with mold with age. I never tried cleaning it. I never had a hook snag it, but on mine it was pretty well within the rubber casing. I could see that if a hook hit it just right it would be a tough one to remove.

It didn't get black so much from tires and black rubber bumpers on the dock, but from creosote soaked wood that turned it brown. Cedar water also stained it some. Aluminum docks also would turn it black. It turned green after it sat for a while out back. I suppose bleach would have cleaned the green stains, but the rest I would guess were permanent. I didn't much care since it was only for fishing, other than a hose down of the deck and the occasional quick bath to get the salt off, it didn't get really cleaned. I sold it about three years ago, I haven't seen it around lately.

Many british made Hardy boats have a coir rope rub rail. life expectancy is about 6 to 10 years. That one looks synthetic, so I expect it cost a lot more, but it should last longer.

Tension is probably not a problem, Hardy put a steel rope down the middle, so there is no load on the main rope.

How do I know? I bought a Hardy 18' last summer.

Of my boats the ONE with NO rub rail stayed in the BEST shape because you learned NOT to use the dock as a fender ;)

i want to say i've seen an '85 or so 2001 nautique with a rope insert in a black rubber rail, looked good if i'm remembering correctly.

the one in the pic looks like it belongs on a really nice boat, let your crew deal with it.
