Re: Would you pay extra for a rope rub rail?
any one got one?
what does it look like after a few rubs against tires?
how do you clean it?
looks great when new
oops
Had the type that just pressed into the rubber rail as an insert, it held up well and didn't rip or tear on sharp dock edges like rubber does, but it did turn black and eventually got green with mold with age. I never tried cleaning it. I never had a hook snag it, but on mine it was pretty well within the rubber casing. I could see that if a hook hit it just right it would be a tough one to remove.
It didn't get black so much from tires and black rubber bumpers on the dock, but from creosote soaked wood that turned it brown. Cedar water also stained it some. Aluminum docks also would turn it black. It turned green after it sat for a while out back. I suppose bleach would have cleaned the green stains, but the rest I would guess were permanent. I didn't much care since it was only for fishing, other than a hose down of the deck and the occasional quick bath to get the salt off, it didn't get really cleaned. I sold it about three years ago, I haven't seen it around lately.
