Too funny...they wouldn't sell it to him so he took it. Wonder what a rig like that sells for.

There obviously wasn't enough tongue weight. With transom straps, it would have rolled the trailer, and possibly the truck if the hitch didn't break.

Can you imagine meeting that jerk on the water with that rig?

Well, the way that I see it, the guy who stole the boat, didn't get the boat, the dealership, who said that he was a repeat customer, lost a "customer" (no big loss ow IMHO), and the folks setting home thinking they were going to get their boat a.s.a.p. will be disappointed !!!!!!!! NOW, hte dealership gets to notify the "honest" customers, that they have to make other arrangements !!!!!!!

I say hang the clown, and make the thief re-imburse the "honest customer" for at least half the price of the new boat. Stop this kinda stuff !!!!!!!! It's not a me, me me, I, I, I world folks !!!!!!!!! What a idiot !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boat was prepped and ready to go and yes it would/could be that easy. And as we saw the cops had it easy too:D

The guy must have forgotten his medication that day:eek:

THE DEALER implies that the new owner has a damaged boat, I see as the dealer has to come up with a new boat to deliver to his customer. It was stolen from the dealer pending delivery.

If the paperwork is done and the insurance is in place it's not the dealer's issue. The owner can take it up with guy who stole his boat. I doubt the dealer would be installing electronics and such on a boat when the paperwork wasn't already finished and the financing done.

Not neccessarily. The final piece of paperwork to sign to "COMPLETE" a sale is a document stating that you are taking delivery. If the customer had not yet taken delivery of the boat then it is still the dealers responsiblity.

I "SOLD" boat could also mean a boat that has had a deposit put on it to secure a sale so that Electronics, etc. could be installed and the sale completed later. Still dealer responsibility.

Re: Would tie straps have helped ...

We had to close on our new boat a month before we took delivery in order to take advantage of various manufacturer discounts and extended warranties. The boat sat at the dealer until the ice melted on area lakes, but we made sure it was fully insured by our insurance company the entire time.

And, no, to answer the question in the title of this post, I seriously doubt tie down straps would've have made much difference in the outcome of this bizarre situation.

However, if someone at the dealer had watched this irate character as he left the showroom, the rightful owners may have gotten their boat on time and in new condition.

If the boat was sold and the papers signed, I hope the customer wasn't stuck with the B.S. of dealing with his insurance!

My friend has 2008 27 Boston Whaler with two 135 Mercs. I think he paid around 125K.....

I suspect that issues about due diligence and negligence to protect the property that was in care of the dealer will be a issue, was the boat behind a locked gate, or have a hitch lock, wheel lock or other securing device. What attempt was made to deter or stop the theft, did they observe or even help the thief hook it up, they seem to observe his action but failed to even pull a car in front of him while he hooked it up.
