I think it might. I have been told there was a change there about I think 78 or 79 so your best bet is to make sure it bolts up the same, the shafts have the same number of splines, and they are both the same length.

I was told that 1977 to 1988 should bolt right up, yours in in that range, so I dont think that the 1975 will work . The main thing is that it shifts the way as yours and that the driveshaft splines are the same . In 1989 they went to a fine spline arrangement on the top of the driveshaft, so they would also be out of spec for your use.

I can never remember what years apply without looking in the service manual, but you may have to change the shift linkage at the powerhead to make it work. Without this change the shift pattern would be reversed.

The 77 does not match up with the 78 either. Look for another 78 or newer. Look for the skeg that is angled back at the rear, rather than straight down.

So Ezeke is it usually safe to say that from 78 to 88 are proper matches, as long as the driveshaft splines are the same as well as the same shift?
