Ok first post here....but I have read a lot on this forum. I recently picked up a good deal on a 78 ranger with a 68 mercury 1100ss on the back. Now the boat runs good and starts just fine. At wide open throttle it's surges, and almost dies out eventually. If I get back and squeeze the primer bulb, she comes back to life. I have ready this is fuel delivery. Everything from tank to motor is brand new. I pulled apart the manual pumps and the diaphragms show no holes but are pretty flemsy. Everyone think this is a smart next step? Thanks for the input

Is there a pulse line on that fuel pump if so check that and make sure all fuel lines are good and tight. Then go to the fuel pump.

There are no in tank filters and fuel filter in motor are good and clean. There are no pulse lines as the pumps are bolted straight to block. Goin with the diaphram as of right now especially see in as they are less than 20 bucks shipped to the door. Thanks for the help so far and I'll post an update after next weekend as I have to replace some rotting wood on trailer.
