My operators manual states an operating range of 5000-6000 rpms. Does this mean that along as the WOT falls within this range, my engine is loaded properly? Would it be better to stay closer to the upper limit of the range?

Re: WOT FS115 YAMAHA

5500 is where You get "maximum output" according to the Owner's Manual.
My F115 is at 5600 at WOT when one person onboard and approx 1/2 tank filled. I use 13 x 19 Yamaha Black Steel prop (and get about 40 knots at WOT with my boat).

I see nothing wrong if You with light load (1-2 persons) and maybe 1/2 tank filled get near 6000 rpm. As You load the boat with more persons and full tank etc etc the RPM will decrease. And if You over rev the outboard the rev limiter should kick in (at approx 6200 rpm) and protect the engine.

Good luck!

hello
to help avoid some of the "making Oil" problems we alwways prop to 6000 RPM with a full tank and a medium load. helps keep the motor from lugging at mid range throttle settings.
especially when someone wants to pull 5 people on a banana tube :) :)

Re: WOT FS115 YAMAHA

I believe the other day @ WOT, my tach showed 5600 rpms. The boat is a 2072 war eagle. My petite wife, light gear, and full tank were on board. I think that the pitch{3 blade sst} is 17.
Do I need to wait until break-in{approx. 4 hours on motor} has finished before checking WOT/RPMs?

rodbolt,

Does the water/fuel separator need to be installed by a qualified marine tech?
