Is a 1975 135 evinrude v4 motor worth rebuilding? I have found out that #4 cylinder is running 100 pounds pressure, and #1 - #3 are running 150 pounds pressure. What do ya thing?? Thanks!!

Re: ??? worth rebuilding ???

Parts are starting to get hard to come by for these old girls so if you commit to a rebuild you are doing it on the faith that the next time you need say a powerpack, you'll be able to get it.I have a hard time encouraging anyone to make that commitment.

Before you decide to rebuild the motor try a decarb, 100 pounds is not a very low reading, you may just have a slightly sticky ring,(I have just had my 1971 125hp throw a ring and the compresion test was only 40 pounds). As for rebuilding the motor I have to say that I found plenty of dealers on the net who have the parts available in the US, a bit more of a problem here in the UK but if you are willing to do the leg work and can do the rebuild yourself you should be OK.

Best of luck
Richard

All restoration projects take time and money, both of these resources are valuable. 1975 might be putting your money into bags with holes in them. And the end result might still be worth little. As RPJS points out you may be able to bleed a little more out of it but keep your finances in tact. Proceed with caution.

I would take the Money that you would put into that Motor and put it toward another newer used Motor that is in good shape. You may also be able to sell your old one for parts and pick up a little extra Money, also! Just my opinion!
